Casa Ateliê Bellotti Residency aims to promote the exploration and production in the different fields, like photography, videoart, painting, woodprinting and carpentry design. We also offer time and space for writers, poets, or researchers seeking a quiet, peaceful rural setting in Portugal to develop their ideas and projects.
We are open to offer multidisciplinary features of Casa Ateliê Bellotti, and it is possible to pursue very distinct paths. We offer support for the development of early-stage projects, and also conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. Residencies here can be focused on research or production and although we do not demand a result – leaving that to the decision of each artist in residence -, we are open to discussing the possibility of developing events such as exhibitions, collaborative projects, workshops or lectures.
On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work. The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.

From 1 week up to 3 months
You will stay in a 15m² room with the option of a single double bed or two single beds. There is a private bathroom for guests on the first floor, and you will also have full access to all shared areas of the house. We have a beautiful garden with fruit trees and a small pool, and in addition we have two gentle and friendly dogs.
During your stay, we aim to arrange gatherings and dinners with other artists and local curators (from Porto and Northern Portugal). We can also organize outings to explore the city of Barcelos and the beautiful natural areas from northern Portugal.
There is free wi-fi 4G at the house. All residents are responsible for their own bed-making, and for maintaining a clean and quiet house environment.
The location
You will be living in a 190m2 shared house that is located in a rural zone in north´s Portugal (Fornelos, Barcelos), 10km from Ofir / Fão beaches (15 minutes by car) and 10 km from Barcelos center´s city (10 minutes by car). We are located 40 minutes from Porto, and 30 minutes from the airport Francisco Sá Carneiro. There is a train station in Barcelos, and also a bus station.
We advise you to rent a car, especially if you want to enjoy what the region has to offer, because public transports here are limited or non-existent. But we can also provide a bicycle for ones who enjoy riding a bike nearby. The house is located near Cavado's river and there are some beautiful trails immersed in nature for ones who enjoy hiking.

Complete woodworking equipment: includes a table saw, jigsaw, gouges, and other tools;
Photography and video studio equipment: LED lighting, Fresnel lights, continuous lighting, black, white, and green seamless backdrops, and tripods;
Tables for painting, printmaking, woodworking, and other artistic purposes.
Studios and Workspace
Casa Ateliê Bellotti offers two different studios, one for video, photography and digital working, another one for painting, printmaking, woodworking and sculptures. Both studios are equipped with comfortable tables and chairs for those working with texts, poetry, or academic research.
Fees and Support
Residency Fee includes :– accommodation in a shared house,– studio access during opening hours (Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.); access to the workshops and equipment according to each participant experience.

Materials and meals not included. We will give you a precise quotation for your residency after your application. Studio Support (training or assistance) is 15€ per hour. At the moment we do not have any grant available, but we encourage artists to apply for external financial support.
